Avanti
Windows FFmpeg GUI

Changes in Avanti version 0.3.1

(This is a excerpt from the chm help file which is included in the Avanti zip package).

From version 0.3.1 up there is a change in how Avanti handles the FFmpeg executable(s) you copied to the ffmpeg folder. To prevent conflicts with other simultaneously running FFmpeg applications and to overcome file naming problems in Windows 2000, Avanti always runs a unique named copy of the selected FFmpeg version.

From version 0.3.1 up the options to terminate FFmpeg with <Ctrl><E> or <Ctrl><F8> are discontinued. These options are replaced by a user definable "hotkey" (disabled by default). Local function keys are often not seen in exceptional situations (unstable FFmpeg/Avanti), a hotkey always will.

For a general overview on changes and bug fixes read the 0.3.1 changelog.

Major change in Avanti version 0.3.0 up.

(This is a excerpt from the chm help file which is included in the Avanti zip package).

The "Container" field on the right of the video codec dropdown list that was formerly called the codec sub-field, has become free container c.q. file extension functionality.

Except for the still existing options "Default, PS and ES", all options that are on this list are directly used as file extension at the destination path and don't need to be registered as a compound codec/container label anymore. The codecs database now only contains default entries that refer to the most common file extension/container type for a particular codec. This makes the use of the pre-defined options (and user additions) from the container list much more versatile and easier to understand.

Adding user entries with compound codec PS and ES labels is (optionally) still applicable but the new "Codec Register Wizard" makes it much easier to manage them (see next section).

If your codecs database is preserved by Avanti and you've added your own compound codec labels other then ES or PS like e.g.; Quicktime MOV, these entries need to be modified by removing the sub-label.

As for the Quicktime example, this would become Quicktime, equal to your label at the main page "Codecs" dropdown list.

This change also makes the .user  file extension option redundant for video destinations but it's still fully functional and for audio it can have limited use
(e.g. using the mka or wav container).

Note that new versions contain a lot of undocumented improvements. If you encounter problems please report it at the Avanti support thread at
